What the position entails...
As a Naval Architecture Department team member, you will be involved in various projects including those covering design studies, concept design, classification design, functional design, detailed design, and shipyard support activities.
Your specific responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development of the General Arrangement and other arrangement drawings.
- Preparing statutory plans including, but not limited to:
- Safety Plans, Fire Control Plans, Hazardous Zone Plans, Firefighting Equipment, and Life-Saving Equipment Plans.
- Preparing Deck Equipment layouts and Compartment Arrangement drawings, including, but not limited to, Anchor and Mooring Arrangements, Crane Arrangements and Wheelhouse Arrangements.
- Preparing outfit drawings and schedules, including, but not limited to, Stair Schedules, Door Schedules and Windows & Portlight Schedules.
- Coordinating with all engineering disciplines to ensure optimum design outcomes.
- Interacting with clients.
- Verifying applied solutions to ensure compliance with Class Rules, International Conventions, Flag State Regulations, and contractual requirements.
- Supporting other engineering disciplines on an as-needed basis.
- Being a proactive member of the Naval Architecture Department and overall engineering team, helping to strive for continual improvements in our processes and our deliverables.
- Collaborating with the Project Manager, Discipline Leads, and other staff and stakeholders on projects.
- Completing tasks within a defined schedule and budget.
- Supporting technical and non-technical work of other staff.
- Participating in working groups (Research & Innovation, Functional Areas, etc) within the company.
- Fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned.
What you will need to be successful...
- Candidate will hold a minimum qualification of a recognized Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or an equivalent engineering degree in a related field.
- Candidate will typically have zero to five years’ post-graduation experience in the marine industry.
- Candidate will have a basic understanding of the primary computer software necessary for an engineering office environment (i.e. MS Office products, AutoCAD, Rhino, etc.)
- An applied knowledge of Naval Architecture is an asset.
- Experience in developing General Arrangement, Statutory Plans, Deck Equipment layouts and Outfitting plans is an asset.
- A working knowledge of International Conventions and Codes, and Flag States Regulations associated with statutory safety requirements is an asset.
- Experience working with IACS Classification Society Rules is an asset.
- Practical understanding of the overall ship design and building process is an asset.

Competitive Salary Range: CA $75,000 - 80,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, as outlined in the job description/posting. Variation in salary is determined by factors such as qualifications, relevant years of experience, and prevailing market conditions for the specific position.
